Bitcoin is not a comfortable asset either. But it is uncomfortable in a very different way.

Over recent months, Bitcoin’s realised volatility has fluctuated around 35–40% annualised, materially lower than Ethereum, yet still far above traditional assets. By comparison, the S&P 500 has hovered near 10%, and the Nasdaq around 15%. Bitcoin remains volatile, but its volatility has become increasingly structural and bounded, rather than explosive.

Implied volatility confirms this evolution. BTC-DVOL (30-day) typically trades in the 45–55% range, moderately above realised volatility. The market prices uncertainty, but not panic. Bitcoin’s risk is anticipated, measured, and increasingly familiar.

Unlike Ethereum, Bitcoin does not internalise multiple layers of technological and economic trade-offs. Its proposition is deliberately narrow. There is no roadmap ambiguity, no evolving monetary policy, no competition between layers for value capture. Bitcoin’s discomfort comes from its rigidity.

As Satoshi implicitly designed it:

Bitcoin behaves less like an evolving system and more like a macro asset with a fixed rule set. Its volatility reflects external forces — liquidity cycles, real rates, dollar strength, and global risk appetite — rather than internal redesign.

Approximately 19.7 million BTC have already been mined, with issuance now below 1.7% annually, declining further after each halving. This fixed and transparent supply schedule anchors long-term expectations, even as price remains volatile. Unlike Ethereum, Bitcoin does not ask the market to price future design decisions. It asks the market to price adoption and macro relevance.

This week offered no dramatic signal.
No flight to safety. No capitulation.

Bitcoin continues to trade in a regime of known uncertainty. Its volatility is not the volatility of experimentation, but of conviction tested by time and macro conditions.

Bitcoin’s risk is not complexity.
It is patience.
