Bitcoin Nodes are up ~20% YOY

With all the price action going on, I think it's good to highlight other aspects of Bitcoin that aren't necessarily related to the price. In this case, I'm talking about Bitcoin nodes.

Based on this chart: https://bitnodes.io/dashboard/1y/ , the number of Bitcoin nodes has grown almost 20% year over year. I'm not sure if these are full nodes or partial nodes, but the point stands. If you look at the map, you'll also notice that these nodes are scattered all over the world.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but ,essentially, nodes are important bc they keep the network honest in a decentralized manner. One way to maybe thing about it is in regards to three branches of power:

  • Legislative branch: Makes new laws, so Bitcoin miners (makes new blocks)
  • Executive branch: enforces laws, so Bitcoin nodes ( enforce the law by rejecting invalid transactions)
  • Judicial branch: interprets laws, so Bitcoin nodes again ( interpret and validate the consensus rules)

And to close out the analogy, maybe the Bitcoin source code is the constitution and the BIP are the amendments?

I digress, the important takeaway is that Bitcoin nodes are growing and that's a good thing.
