Cold storage vs. Online wallet

Is there any other reason besides being hacked, that you would want your coins on a cold wallet? ( Under 5k in total investment ) I don't have much but my DCA is getting to the point of thinking about the pro's and con's of cold storage. And if a cold wallet makes sense which one is safe and also user-friendly?
