How does one go about engraving their keyphrase on steel plates?

I often hear the idea engraving one's keyphrase on stainless steel plates so that you never use them, but I don't understand how one would go about that. Like, I don't keep laser engraving equipment in my house, and if I go to a business to have it done, then I'm giving my keyphrase to someone else.
