How far can Bitcoin be broken down?

I’m just wondering if there is a theoretical technical limit for how far a coin can be broken down? I know sats are the smallest you can buy rn but is that the hard limit?

If there is a hard limit, and btc takes over all currencies, the value of the smallest possible denomination becomes very important.
