I bought at $3, sold at $73,000 in February.
I had 450 btc I bought mostly at $3. Then Mt. Gox went bankrupt and 10 years later in 2024 I got 14%, or 64 or so btc. Then btc became worth $124,000 and I had $8,000,000 worth of btc. Through it all I was a true believer. Not to mention I didn’t want to pay tax on the gain.
But then btc went down and I sold it all at $73,000 because $4.5 million is better than zero million. Even with an insane tax bill.
So what went wrong with bitcoin? If only satoshi had patented blockchain technology or something. If only there had been no ethereum, no solono, no NFTs, no fartcoin, no trump coin, no melania coin, no pump.fun, btc would be worth $1m now.
But the sad reality is that there is nothing btc can do that stablecoins and fartcoin can’t do. It’s only money because people believe it’s money. And that belief is fading. It’s old news. It’s obsolete. All the ETFs and institutions should have made it go up. But they didn’t.
The true believers are fanatics. “Past performance is no guarantee of future performance”. You can sit there and potentially watch it go to 25k and buy more and watch it slowly go down until nobody cares anymore. Or you can participate in the greatest technological revolution in 100 years. AI, drones, robots, flying taxis, robotaxis, small nuclear reactors, and on and on. Even if the market crashes 50% or more, these companies are real. The products are real. These things are the future and are not going away.
Why on earth are you staying in btc? Btc may be an nft, a tulip bulb. There is nothing there but belief and the world is moving on. It’s sad. But it would be sadder if I had lost another $1 million by staying in btc from $73,000 down to now.
