Possible issue in BCH bitcoin.com wallet
This is for the developers of Bitcoin.com wallet, or Roger, u/memorydealers maybe you could pass it on
I wanted to make you guys aware of an issue I encountered. I entered the seed words for a BCH address from the Bitcoin.com wallet into Ian Coleman’s mnemonic code converter (the one linked by Coinomi). I selected Bitcoin Cash from the dropdown menu and scrolled down to the derived address, expecting it to match the receiving addresses in my Bitcoin.com BCH wallet, but there was no match.
Next, I entered the Bitcoin.com BCH seed phrase into both Cake and Coinomi wallet to see if the balance would show and generate a the same receiving addresses as Bitcoin.com, no match. But those wallets generating their own seeds and keys did match with Coleman’s converter. I finally realized that Bitcoin.com uses legacy BTC addresses and then converts them to cash addresses. While most other wallet I tried generated cash addresses differently, which always matched with Coleman’s mnemonic generator when I entered the seed phrases.
So, interchanging seeds from the Bitcoin.com wallet with another wallet makes the balance in those derived wallets invisible to the other wallets, showing a 0 balance on the surface. This used to not be the case (from what I remember). Coleman’s generator would always match the cash addresses of the Bitcoin.com wallet. I tried adjusting the derivation path in Coleman’s converter to match Bitcoin.com, but still no address match.
To sum this up: addresses generated from the seeds in the Bitcoin.com BCH wallet will not be compatible with most other BCH wallets if imported.** Most people aren’t like us on here, and wouldn’t know how to get at the underlying legacy address to convert it to cash address and then sweep from that address, and they would think they lost funds if they imported seed I nto another wallet, like Cake or Coinomi, or many others.
It’s possible I’m missing something, but if I were to hand over the seed words to someone I trust and say just import those into your favorite wallet they will likely see a zero BCH balance. The same isn’t true for BTC balance. Those are interchangeable and compatible across wallets for obv reasons from a Bitcoin.com BTC wallet’s seed.
