Technology constantly gets replaced, what’s stopping BTC from meeting the same fate?

I was having a conversation with a friend and he raised a very valid argument. What is stopping Bitcoin from being made obsolete by a new technological invention in the next few years?

Is this possible? If so, how are you personally managing that risk and what do you think could potentially replace it?
