Thoughts/opinions on owning BTC vs grayscale?

Looking to start getting into bitcoin and discovered the grayscale ETF. Thoughts and opinions on this? From the way I see it, owning shares of an ETF that holds bitcoin instead of actually owning the bitcoin yourself kind of defeats the purpose of getting into bitcoin in the first place considering the conspiracy, if you will, behind it. Am I missing something here? Would like to hear what you think of this, thanks
