Using Bitcoin.com Wallet To Sweep Paper Wallet

I have a bunch of paper wallets, some with BTC, some with BCH, some with both BTC and BCH.

I went to sweep a wallet with only BTC and to my horror, it said “this paper wallet is empty”. After triple checking the public address I confirmed it wasn’t empty.

I figured maybe the public/private key pair was mismatched, so i sent a small amount of BCH to the same paper wallet and tried again to sweep it.

Suddenly it sees both the BCH and BTC. So it only registers the BTC if there is also BCH in it.

I love this wallet but this flaw almost gave me a heart attack. u/memorydealers is there a reason or is this just a bug?
