When would we be unable to buy BTC with fiat?

If fiat really drops down to (basically) zero and the price of BTC would increase to "infinity" (?) Then at what point would it be impossible to buy BTC with fiat. And what could buy BTC at that moment in time? Only what is unlocked by mining?
